Lantern Festival Displays

What does a Chinese Lantern Festival involve?

A curated outdoor trail of large-scale illuminated sculptures, handcrafted from steel, silk, and LED arrays. Each installation is designed for your venue’s specific paths and sightlines. The trail typically runs for 6–12 weeks during winter months.

How much does a Chinese Lantern Festival cost?

Based on real UK venue projects: Entry-level (10–15 installations): $100K–$190K. Standard (20–30 installations): $190K–$320K. Large-scale (30+ custom installations): $320K–$640K+. All prices include design, manufacturing in Zigong, sea freight, on-site installation, and support throughout the event run. See full pricing breakdown →

Where can I see winter light festivals in the UK?

See our Winter Light Festival UK 2026 guide for the best trails, gardens and country estates — with ticket prices, trail lengths, and what to expect.

How long does a lantern festival run?

Most lantern festivals run 6–12 weeks. Our installations are designed and weatherproofed for sustained outdoor use throughout the full run, with on-site support included.

How far in advance should we start planning?

We recommend 6 to 8 months before your target opening date. Venues needing council approvals or listed-building consent should allow additional time. From contract to opening night takes approximately 14 weeks. Start with a free venue assessment →

Are lantern festivals legal in the UK?

Yes. All installations meet CE and RoHS standards. We provide full technical documentation — wiring diagrams, fire safety certificates, structural calculations — for your venue’s permitting process. Every installation is weather-sealed and rated for UK winter conditions up to 90 km/h wind loads.

What happens during bad weather?

All installations are rated for wind loads up to 90 km/h and sealed against heavy rain. The trail remains open in most UK winter conditions. We provide a weather action plan with thresholds for wind, ice, and electrical storms — agreed with your venue before opening night.

How long do the lanterns last?

With proper maintenance, the steel frames last 6–8 event seasons. Silk panels are replaced every 2–3 seasons or sooner if colour fading exceeds 15% on a spectrophotometer reading. LED arrays carry a 50,000-hour manufacturer rating — roughly 15 years of seasonal use.

What is the difference between factory-direct and a trading company?

A trading company buys from the factory at wholesale and resells to you with a 40–70% margin. Working factory-direct eliminates that layer. You also retain design IP ownership — CAD files, colour palettes, and steel moulds belong to you after the event. Our quality control team sits 50 metres from the production line, not three phone calls away. Read the full comparison →

Which countries do you serve?

We have delivered 30+ festivals across the UK, Europe, Australia, and North America. Our Amsterdam warehouse stocks spare parts for all active European projects.

Christmas Light Displays & Trails

What is a Christmas light trail?

A planned, engineered, walkable illuminated trail — large-scale sculptures arranged along a curated route, with interactive triggers, themed zones, and a narrative arc that carries visitors from gate to exit. Not string lights and plastic Santas.

How much does a Christmas light trail cost?

Costs are comparable to our lantern festival pricing, depending on the number of installations, custom design complexity, and venue requirements. Contact us for a line-item budget tailored to your venue →

What is the revenue impact of a Christmas light trail?

Botanical gardens that adopt a seasonal light event see it contribute over 35% of annual revenue within two seasons (IAAPA 2024). At Birmingham Botanical Gardens, F&B spend per visitor rose from £6.50 to £18.40, gift shop transactions increased 3.4×, and parking generated over £40,000 in six weeks. Dwell time extends to 90–150 minutes versus 45–70 minutes for a typical Christmas market. See full details →

How does a Christmas light trail differ from a Chinese lantern festival?

A Christmas light trail is a winter holiday-themed illuminated walk designed for the November–January season. A Chinese lantern festival can run in any season and draws on 2,000 years of Zigong craft tradition. Both formats use the same factory-direct manufacturing process — steel frames, silk coverings, IP65 LEDs. The difference is in theme and timing. Read the comparison →

How long do visitors stay at a Christmas light trail?

A well-designed light trail keeps visitors on site for 90–150 minutes. That is roughly double the 45–70 minutes of a typical Christmas market. Longer dwell time means more food and beverage sales, more gift shop visits, and more social media photo sharing — typically reaching 250K impressions per 10,000 visitors.

What materials are used in Christmas light installations?

Q235 steel frames, UV-stabilised silk and satin coverings, and IP65-rated waterproof LED arrays (IP68 where ground water is an issue). Every sculpture is engineered for flat-pack shipping, reducing container volume by approximately 30% versus shipping assembled structures.

Do you offer zoo-specific Christmas light installations?

Yes. We design animal-themed and winter-wonderland installations specifically for zoos and wildlife parks. See our zoo lights supplier guide →

Are Christmas light trails suitable for heritage or Grade II listed sites?

Yes. We have installed at Birmingham Botanical Gardens, a Grade II listed landscape. Our installation methods use surface-level anchoring that does not damage root systems or historic grounds. Full planning documentation is provided for listed-building consent applications.

Custom Lantern Manufacturing

What types of custom lanterns do you make?

Four product lines: Animal Sculptures (2m–12m, zoo-quality wildlife recreations), Floral & Botanical (giant lotus, cherry blossom tunnels), Festival Scene Tableaus (multi-element narrative installations), and Brand & Corporate Installations (logo-integrated, mascot, event centrepieces). Browse all product lines →

What is your manufacturing process?

Five stages: (1) Site Assessment & 3D Design — 2 weeks; (2) Engineering & Material Specification; (3) Handcrafted Fabrication — 4 weeks in our 30,000 m² Zigong workshop; (4) 23-step Quality Control; (5) Global Logistics & On-Site Installation. Every sculpture carries a serial-numbered inspection card from frame welding through final light-up test. See the full process →

What materials do you use?

Q235-grade structural steel frames (galvanised or powder-coated), UV-stabilised bamei satin fabric, and IP65-rated waterproof LED modules. Climate-specific specifications: cold-resistant cabling for sub-zero venues, enhanced anti-corrosion for coastal sites, UV-treated fabric for Middle Eastern installations.

How is quality controlled?

Every installation passes a 23-step inspection before leaving our workshop: frame weld integrity, fabric tension, colour accuracy under multiple lighting conditions, LED functionality (each diode tested), waterproofing, wind load verification (up to 90 km/h), electrical insulation, and packaging stability. All installations meet CE and RoHS standards.

Do I own the designs after the event?

Yes. Factory-direct contracts include a design transfer clause: after the event, the CAD files, colour palettes, and steel moulds are yours. If you want to run the same festival again, you do not pay design fees twice. Trading companies typically retain design IP.

How long does custom manufacturing take?

A typical custom design takes 6–12 weeks from approval to completion, depending on size and complexity. A five-metre centrepiece takes approximately 22 person-days from first steel bend to final light-up.

What sizes can you make?

Animal sculptures typically range from 2m to 12m tall. Festival centrepieces can reach 20m or more. Every sculpture is designed for your venue’s specific sightlines and path widths.

Can I visit the workshop?

Yes. Our workshop door is open. We encourage video calls during your manufacturing window so you can watch your pieces being built in real time.

Venue & Project Planning

Which types of venues do you work with?

Botanical gardens, zoos and wildlife parks, theme parks, city festivals and public spaces, historic estates, and corporate events. Our installations have lit up venues across the UK, Europe, Australia, the Middle East, and North America. See venue examples →

How do you handle venue-specific requirements like listed buildings or protected landscapes?

We provide full technical documentation for council and heritage approvals — structural calculations, fire safety certificates, wiring diagrams, ground anchoring specifications. At Birmingham Botanical Gardens (Grade II listed), our steel bases went into soil using surface-level methods that did not disturb the irrigation system or protected root zones. Read our risk management guide →

Is there a minimum order?

We work with venues of all sizes. Contact us with your venue details and we will provide a proposal tailored to your space, budget, and audience.

Do you offer a free site assessment?

Yes. We provide a written site feasibility assessment within 10 working days at no cost — covering visitor estimates, ticket revenue projections, total project cost, and break-even attendance. Request yours →

What are the main risks and how do you manage them?

We address weather (90 km/h wind rating, rain sealing), safety (CE/RoHS, BS 7671, fire certificates), heritage site protection (surface anchoring), financial risk (transparent line-item pricing), and operational continuity (Amsterdam spare parts warehouse, 48-hour shipping). Read the complete risk management guide →

How do lantern festivals impact venue revenue?

Winter attendance typically multiplies by 4–8×. F&B spend per head rises from $6–10 to $18–23. The Birmingham installation generated parking revenue of £40,000+ in six weeks — normally near zero in winter. Most venues recoup their investment within the first season. See revenue data →

Are the lanterns environmentally sustainable?

Yes. All installations use LED lighting (85% less energy than incandescent). Steel frames are fully recyclable. Silk offcuts from the workshop are donated to local textile programmes. A 45-installation trail draws approximately 52 kW at peak — comparable to a small commercial kitchen.
